Prompt #9- Alexa Nommensen

In my high school experience we were supposed to tie in our personal lives with our writing pieces. Whether it is linking the story we were reading with a story or thought, or even history. Students are to relate what they know and apply it their work. What good is it if we just write in school and not out of class? We have to read and write outside of education intuitions the second we all step out the door. My teachers always encouraged outside journal writing and to embrace our inner classical writers. We learned all about the transcendentalists and the great American writers. My senior English class we read the important classic books and translated them into current times. Applying what we knew now to the language used then and situations that were frowned upon in society. It was a great indicator of learning about our culture and traditions currently and of our ancestors.

The two authors have interests point on education and literacy. Rodriguez and Gere both have fascinating beliefs based on experience, (or lack of past experiences) and other classical authors. Rodriguez read stories and wrote just to accomplish those tasks on his lists. In which is an upsetting story seeing that his writing only reflects the facts that the author expresses. His own opinion truly does not show. It is just the regrets that he has that are expressed in Rodriguez’s life that he missed out on by morphing into a “Scholarship boy”. In Gere’s articles on the “Kitchen Tables and Rented Rooms” it is the extracurriculm writing that promotes interested writings. Having positive writing skils on relative stories with personal experiences is what writers need in order to have passion and inspiration in there pieces. Studies have shown that positive self motivated writing is what makes student and adults more interactive with their own pieces.

Teachers can include writing clubs into their classrooms, or even seminars in on writing groups that inspire common interests. Research papers that are based on a student’s need to write are important to forming good papers. Adults and students having a deeper attachment to their work with basic interests is a more significant learning experience than paraphrasing the work of other great writers into your own. Becoming great students instead of mediocre repetitive students that just fill their brains with knowledge that teachers lecture is what makes the education process worthwhile. Student’s need to have a better understanding of their own work in order to accomplish the tasks of school so the interest is maintained.
